Sarah is passionate about supporting people going through challenging, lifechanging circumstances. She offers a warm and compassionate space for people at times where they feel like their normal coping resources aren’t enough. She has particular interest in assisting with psychological adjustment to changes in our physical health such as injury, illness, perinatal wellbeing and pain management. Her background is in Health Psychology, which is a speciality area of psychology that focuses on understanding how our psychological health (what we think, how we feel and what we do) relates to our physical health and illness, as well as societal and cultural factors.

Sarah is used to working with people who may be seeking psychological support for the first time, such as sudden illness or workplace injury. She enjoys working collaboratively with other allied health teams to offer holistic care. Her role at AXIS involves working alongside specialist physiotherapists to deliver one-on-one functional rehabilitation programs for people living with persistent pain.

During your first session with her she will mainly be listening, but she will also answer any questions you might have and try to set you at ease with an idea of what treatment will be like. She is a collaborative therapist so she will check in with you to make sure you are making progress together.  She will work with you to bridge the gap between how things are for you in the moment and how you’d like them to be.

Kai is an enthusiastic and engaging person who is passionate about supporting people through life to help them continually perform at their best.  Kai offers a compassionate, welcoming, and practical environment for people to comfortably share their story.  Kai has experience in assisting people who are experiencing difficulties associated with chronic pain and injury, depression, and anxiety.  Kai works with people to develop self-awareness to help them navigate the difficulties that life presents us in a way that is consistent with their own core values and what is important to them.

Kai works with adolescents (aged 14 and above) and adults and enjoys working as part of multidisciplinary teams to offer holistic and person-centered care.  Like the other psychologists at AXIS, he works alongside physiotherapists to deliver one-on-one functional rehabilitation programs for people living with persistent pain.

Kai has also worked within sport and high performance settings, with elite and amateur athletes, organisations, and corporations, and enjoys working with people who are involved in high pressure performance environments, such as sport, business, and health settings.

During your first and subsequent sessions with Kai, you will find that he takes the time to listen to your story and will answer questions you might have about your treatment.  Kai also uses what he describes as ‘props’ and quietly rates his drawing skills on a whiteboard, to explain key concepts and work with people in a way that is both interactive and explorative.  Kai understands not everyone learns the same and tries to adopt a flexible approach that is guided by your own feedback on what you would find beneficial from sessions.

Kai’s specific therapeutic approaches include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Psychological Skills Training.
